Let the Papa Lead by Sonya

To each father out there we want to encourage you to lead your children and direct them to Christ in all that you do! This is not an easy task as it takes a joint effort with your wife, or mother of your children, supporting you to lead the family. God has given dads a unique role to spiritually lead and guide their families and if they aren’t given the chance to do that, they miss the opportunity.

My husband thrives off of leading our family and finds great pleasure in doing that because he knows it is God’s will and his responsibility. If I don’t give my husband the chance to make important decisions and guide our family through the highs and lows, he is stifled as a believer and can’t fulfill the calling God has put in his heart and life. My husband will then feel inadequate if I don’t let him do his job and support him as he does it. If fathers feel unimportant and their need to lead is not met, they will distance themselves and not care anymore about making decisions.  Wives we must support our husbands and let them lead by loving them and encouraging them. This needs to happen in public and in front of our children, not just privately. Our children need to see a father that is supported and in unity with his wife because they find stability in our marriage. A united front is so important to our kids and that fulfills their deepest need of having solid parents on the same page that are supportive, and loving to each other and them.

Letting the papa lead the family in a Godly way will gain so much respect from not only your wife but your children too. The children will have a new respect for their dad and learn to obey the papa and not second guess him, or go to mom, because they are a team making decisions together. My husband does an excellent job at leading our family and when I let him lead, he shines. Fathers have a huge influence on our children and the world and we need to let their lives shine. As they draw closer to God in their leadership, their children will draw closer to God in their obedience. Ephesians 5 says, “Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dear children.” “Now you are full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it. For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.”  Letting our papas lead is the greatest gift we can give our fathers this Father’s Day!
